Gaylaxicon is a GLBT science fiction and fantasy convention. One of the organizers sent out this info for me to post here. I had a great time at this convention the last time it was held and highly recommend it. It is a great way to meet folks with very similiar interests.

Gaylaxicon 2004 – San Diego is pleased to announce that author David Gerrold has agreed to be a Guest of Honor at the convention, which will be held at the Red Lion Hanalei Hotel, April 8 – 11, 2004.

Mr. Gerrold is the Hugo, Nebula and Spectrum award-winning author of “The Martian Child,” the “War Against The Chtorr” series, “Jumping Off The Planet” and “Bouncing Off The Moon,” “The Voyage Of The Star Wolf,” “The Man Who Folded Himself,” “When HARLIE Was One,” “In The Deadlands,” “Moonstar Odyssey,” “Space Skimmer,” and “The Trouble With Tribbles” episode of “Star Trek.”

Mr. Gerrold has been writing professionally since the sale of his first television script, “The Trouble With Tribbles,” in 1967, which to this day remains the most popular episode of “Star Trek.” In addition to other episodes of “Star Trek,” he has written for over a dozen other television series, including “Star Trek: The Animated Series,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “The Twilight Zone,” “Babylon 5,” “Sliders,” “Logan’s Run” and “Tales From The Darkside,” and he is the creator of “Land of the Lost.” Mr. Gerrold has also published more than forty books, and has been nominated for or received Hugo, Nebula, Spectrum, Lambda, Locus Readership Poll, Homer, Sturgeon, and Hal Clement “Golden Duck” Awards.

Mr. Gerrold attends science fictions conventions all over the world, and conducts an auction at each one to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles, raising over $30,000 to date and still going. He resides in Los Angeles, California, with his adopted son, who was the basis for the semi-autobiographical novelette “The Martian Child.” (Thankfully, now that his son is a teenager, Mr. Gerrold no longer suspects his son is a Martian – he’s sure of it.)

Mr. Gerrold joins previously announced Guest of Honor artist Joe Phillips, the comic artist whose resume includes work for DC Comics, Innovation Comics and Wizards of the Coast, drawing such characters as Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, Silver Surfer, Catwoman, Superboy, Green Lantern, and many others, and is the artist behind “Rage: Gay Crusader,” based on the comic seen in the Showtime series “Queer As Folk.”

We are also happy to announce that the convention will be held at the beautiful Red Lion Hanalei Hotel in Mission Valley, 2270 Hotel Circle North, San Diego. This lush Hawaiian-themed hotel is conveniently located close to all the city’s finest attractions, and is the perfect venue for Gaylaxicon 2004. Room rates for the convention are $99.00 per night, and can be made any time by calling (800) 882-0858 or visiting their website at www.hanaleihotel.com, and using the convention code “gaylaxicon.”

We invite everyone to visit our newly redesigned and updated website at www.gaylaxicon.org/2004. There you can find more information on the convention, including how to register for the convention, news and updates, daytime programming, evening events, vacationing in San Diego, our Guests of Honor, our host hotel, gaming, art show, dealers room, volunteering and more. Check back often for progress reports, more guest and programming announcements, and other updates.

The dates of the convention will be April 8 to 11, 2004. Attending memberships are available for $40.00 until July 31, 2003; $45.00 until December 31, 2003; $50 until February 29, 2004; and $60.00 at the door. Supporting memberships are also available at $25.00 any time.

Anyone interested in Gaylaxicon 2004 will be able to find us promoting at several upcoming fan conventions, including Baycon (May 23-26, San Francisco), Westercon (July 3-6, Seattle), Comic-Con (July 17-20, San Diego), the San Diego LGBT Pride Festival (July 26-27, San Diego), Worldcon (August 28-September 1, Toronto, Canada), and other area conventions in and around Southern California and the West Coast.

Gaylaxicon, the annual national gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and friends science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics and gaming convention, is coming to the west coast for the first time in 2004, and will mark its twelfth occurrence. Planned activities include author, artist and media guests, panel discussions, book signings, readings, a Masquerade, dance, “Gaylactic Jeopardy,” gaming, costuming, an art show and a dealers room.
